It’s been a week since Free Comicbook Day already and I guess it’s time to finally post our photos from the day. I had a really good time, but it was a bit cold. When we arrived at the event it was snowing, real Skyrim weather! But it cleared up during the day and we even had time for a small photoshoot down town by the church.

Haafingar / Solitude Hold Guard
Costume, helmet, shield, legguards and sword scabbard is made by Kim-san. He’s also wearing a real metal chainmail.
Forsworn
Costume, legguards, demigauntlets, pouch, dreads and jewelry made by HK. The wooden dagger is bought in London and Kim-san made the bow, arrows and quiever. I also have a elk bone fasten to the belt, the real deal which I got at a museum (cound’t find any dragonbones).
Did any of you celebrate or went to an event on Free Comicbook Day? I hope you had a great weekend no matter what you did~
As you might know we have been working on our costumes from Skyrim. Kim-san has been working on a Solitude hold guard and we did some location hunting on a mountain nearby. If everything goes according to plan, we’ll take a photoshoot there in the summer.
Photos of our costumes are coming up soon, just wait a little longer please.
I got a notice from Kim-san that one of his cosplays had been featured on a webpage – 16 most stunning video game cosplay – which I think is really cool! There were also a few other familiar faces on the site. Go check it out!
I’ve been planning a Skyrim costume, but lack of money have kept me from it. Together with Kim-san, I’m making a Skyrim costume for Free Comic Book Day. Mine is a very primitive “Forsworn” hence the moneyproblem. I bought 2 meters of fur, wich didn’t seem like a bad idea at the moment, but when I came home I found out it was way too much. Heh..
Fur, needle, thread and a scissor was all I needed to make the main parts of the costume.
I packed my sword, armor and clothes. Took a deep breath and tried to not get too excited, but it was impossible. Even seven hours on a train, with three shifts and some very poor trainwagons didn’t make me feel less excited. I was going to Banzaicon with Kim-san!
Last weekend we went to Larvik to attend Banzaicon 3: Matsuri. The theme for the convention was Matsuri, which means festival. The crew had been decorating the whole building with origami stars, flowers and wonderful stuff. They had lots and lots of sakuraflowers made of origami.
It was my first time in Larvik and Banzaicon, and it was so great. I can honestly say that it was one of my best convention experiences, ever since I started cosplaying in 2009.
Banzaicon is tree days non stop convention located in Larvik, Norway. Event though it’s a small convention, about 500 tickets sold, they had a lot of good panels and guests. Tab Kimpton, Fighting Dreamers production, Akemi Solloway and Silje Danielsen were some of the guests and held great panels about costumes, props, wigs, Japanese culture and cosplay.
I met many really great cosplayers and was amazed by the winners of the cosplay contest. Congratulations to Rakel getting the first place for her stunning Fenris cosplay! You can see her awesome cosplay in our video from the event, under the photos.
Thanks a million to Elvina and her awesome family who let us stay, eat and transported us everywhere. She’s got the coolest family ever, and her grandma has like 2 DS consoles and tons of games! WOW!
My Mulan costume turned out great, and just a few more adjustments and I’m ready for Desucon in June! Kim got a new vest for Jack and a new consafe sword.

Kim filmed a bit at the convention, I hope you enjoy it!
We also got the endingshow on film~
And also photos from the convention. I met so many great cosplayers on Saturday, but didn’t bring my camera because it’s so hard taking photos while wearing the armor. The pics I’ve got is from Sunday, and I’ve met a lot of amazing cosplayers that day too. I took some photos of some of them.
And we had an amazing photoshoot with the Legend of Zelda cosplayers.
I’ve been working for ages on this costume, and finally it’s beginning to look like something. As I posted before, I wanted to mix Disney’s Mulan with the live action movie, and I hope it turned out well. I’ve taken inspiration from the Kingdom Hearts model of Mulan and added armorplates that are more like the traditional armor, similar to what they use in the live action movie, the rest is all Disney’s design.
Everything is made from scratch (if you don’t count the belt, I bought it at a local second hand store) and patched together by hand and sewingmachine. Kim-san was so kind to make the demi gauntlets for me. He’s also making the leg guards, and my sword if he’s got the time. Just a few small final touches and it’s done.
You can watch my other cosplays and photography at deviantART – hannekake & watch cosplay videos at KimLink84‘s channel on youtube.
If you live in Norway, I’ll be at Banzaicon 3 with this costume, teaming up with Kim-san as Jack Sparrow and maybe some other Disney cosplayers.
Otaku House has been showcasing a lot of amazing cosplayers and had a Cosplay Idol contest last year. They started this year with a showcase of duet cosplayers from all over the world. Would you like to enter Otaku House – Duet Showcase? Read more about submissions and get information from their website Otaku House.
This was taken at the annual London MCM Expo in May 2011. We were teaming up with other Super Smash Bros characters, but ended up with being a bit too early and the others a bit too late.
Kake as Dark Toon Link from Super Smash Bros Brawl. I made the tunic, hat, belt and used over three hours to do the makeup. For this cosplay we ued grid lenses, since I can’t wear sclera lenses.
Kim-san as Dark Link from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The whole costume, but not the chainmail, is made by him. (That’s a real chainmail, wich is 9 kilos, creds to him for that!) He painted the boots as well. Kim-san also used red grid lenses and a little less than three hours with the make-up.
Right now I’m working on my first Disney costume, and I decided to go for Mulan. She’s one of my favorite characters from Disney and she’s not a princess. The movie Mulan is based on true events, and I wanted to go for a traditional warrior style when I make the costume, but still similar to Disney’s Mulan.
I need 958686040387586 of these squares. Not really, but it feels like it.
Sew the squares together and you've got a traditional armorplate.
Since I’m a student – I don’t have much money – I’ll be making the armor from foam and not leather as I had hoped. I found out last month that leather is really expensive and that faux leather is actually a bit expensive too… I ran to our local hobby-store and bought some plates of foam, and hope that it will look okay in the end.
A mix between the Hua Mulan live action movie and Disney's animated movie.
If you live in Norway, check out this list over where you can get costumes, accessories or other stuff to make your costume.
Or, where do you get your cosplay stuff from?
